The Kelly Shift Pattern

The Kelly Shift Pattern is a common pattern in fire departments and emergency services that provides 24-hour coverage. This pattern is made up of 3 teams (or crews) and 3 24-hour Shift Durations. This shift pattern occurs on a 9-day cycle, in which teams work a total of 3 days, and have 6 days off.

Pros of the Kelly Shift Schedule:

  • Employees get a consecutive 4 days off each rotation.
